The Calypso is an underwater camera originally designed for Jacques Cousteau and his expeditions. It’s the first true self-contained underwater camera, which is to say that it’s not just a terrestrial camera in a bulky housing. When new, it was capable of submersion up to an impressive 200ft (but please do not try it with this camera today). The Calypso is very small and handleseasily, even with gloves. Nikon liked it so much that they bought the designs and started making them as the original Nikonos. This is an early Calypso, with speeds to 1/1000s and a 3.5cm f3.5 Berthiot lens.The cameraincludes its original box and manuals- and even the strap and lenscap. There is some paint wear on the base, but no sign of corrosion. Working shutter.
