This Nikon 400mm f5.6 Nikkor*ED is a hard-to-find early model of the Nikon 400mm f5.6, sometimes referred to as the, ahem, “fat” version. It is a broader lens than the later IF version, and was produced in pretty low quantities: Nikon collector Richard De Stoutz claims less than400 were made, thoughthe serial number on this lens isslightly lower than his starting point, so I suppose that may be up for debate. Either way, not a lot of these out there. There is a large chip to the front element in the middle, so this one is more of a parts type lens. There is some cosmetic paint and finish wear, only a few shallow dings on the hood, and good mechanical function. The glass is free of haze or fungus. It includes front and rear caps.
